Comment from Malcolm at 18:21 on 10_28_05 Now as a counter weight to the story about 17 magazine being pulled from Albertson's store. The Tar Heels have an event on November 10th.
"Students walking through Polk Place on Nov. 10 can play a game of pin-the-finger on the clit as part of the Orgasm Awareness Festival co-sponsored by Choice and Feminist Students United."
I wrote a poem years ago on the Clitorus.... We must honor and enjoy our bodies not vilify and be embarassed by them. Violence abounds on the TV and Cinema, yet we cannot see naked beauty in all its forms. (And I don't mena pornography) Here's the poem:
CLITORAL MASS
Small may I be, yet, hidden from view
I am amazed at the power that I posess.
Quietly waiting, those prepubescant years
I often spring into bloom
amidst the drenching downpour of youthful lust.
The joy, the pleasure, the release.
Oh but, I cum in peace, and shear bliss.
Some see me as a threat.
Cut out, defiled by those who would not comprehend.
Thrown away, and discarded on the scrapheap of convention,
and all in the name of culture.
Do you really fear me?
Are you so afraid of elemental, base joy?
Look in this mirror of inner flesh
and rejoice with me as I you,
manly ying, embrace my feminine yang.
Stroke me, kiss me, look at me.
Embrace my very essence.
Internet Scene, obscene, not seen.
Why do you not nurture my intimate being?
My private conversations want to touch you deep.
Intrinsic to the infinite possibilities of physical and emotional self.
Yes, clitoral mass!
If only you would understand.

Comment from Malcolm at 16:35 on 10_27_05 I never cease to be amazed at the prudish behaviour of certain segments of american society. A grocery chain called Albertson's which has 2500 stores in Oregon has just pulled the latest issue of 17 Magazine from its stores. Why? Because there was an article in there about young gir's anatomy. It ws meant to be educational, but the shame of some people won out.
In a country that has a large percentage of people beleiving that the Bible is true it doesnt't surprise me. Tell me how does a young girl larn about her own body. How will she know the correct techniques for self stimulation, or how can she direct her partner if she is ignorant?
We can see guns but we cannot comfortably share our expertise about the human anatomy. What are people afraid of?
We are not evolving, we are devolving! Spiritual development embraces knowledge in all its forms, no matter the subject matter. If something that is a source of great pleasure such as our genitalia can cause shame and discomfort I would ask why? Better embrace with Love rather than to judge and condem.
The Scandinavian countries plus Holland are very open regarding their sexuality, yet they are not morally corrupt countries. The USA chooses to invade sovreign nations using fals claims and irrational justification.
What would Texans do if Mexico decided to invade. Fight back, as is their right.
Open up our hearts and minds, more love in all its forms and less bloodshed, the world would be better off. Comment from Malcolm at 14:35 on 10_23_05 I watched CBS's Sunday Morning News with Charles Osgood today. He had 3 stories on of interest.
1. Intelligent Design. The idea that a higher being "made" us. This is predominantly a Christian backed initiative. My response to this is if there is any kind of "intelligent being" behind our creation, then they did an incredibly bad job. The irony of all this is that these folks want power and control, which is the antithesis of what any "intelligent design" would desire. At the core of the word intelligence is the ability to think logically and with reason.
Here are some definitions from the web:-
a. The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.
b. The faculty of thought and reason.
c. Superior powers of mind.
If we were created through intelligent design then surely we would have more concern for ourselves and the earth?
2. Neo Nazi march in Toledo Illinois -- If we were "Intelligent beings" we would not stoop to this kind of behaviour. Neo Nazis are deeply afraid at a certain level, and are blinded to the inherent good in all living things.
3. Jamie Cullum the Singer. He is a one in a lifetime musican who is quite remarkable. He epitomizes "intelligent design", and that's the paradox. We don't actually understand the workings of the brain and the body. As someone once stated, "if the brain was simple enough to understand we wouldn't be able to!"
The Intelligent design crowd are seeking control masking as openess. We could prove the concept by our actions. Unfortunately ego driven individuals love quoting "Bibles" rather than living out the credo written in said document.
We are living in this absurd world whereby a Leader of the free world professes to be a Christian, yet spends each day of his life engaging in activities which are decidely at odds with those of Jesus. BUT SOMEHOW MILLIONS OF PEOPLE LAP UP this nonsense. Comment from malcolm at 17:06 on 10_18_05 Here it is past the middle of October and I haven't posted the current month page. Living out our grandparent's lament, "I don't know where the times goes?"
I've been looking for work for over 3 months now and it is far more difficult than I imagined. My typical day is to work all morning on posting my resume out there and applying for jobs, then in the afternoon to continue with my education, teaching myslef more Java and Javascript programming techniques.
My resume was sent in to a company recently, and the person looking at the CV said "he's not a developer!" I wonder what I have been doing these past 30 years? I designed and developed numerous systems with both hardware and software. I've written extensive C programmes that controlled the largest tape duplication system in the world in a real time manner.
In the last two years, I've embraced html design, both coding and Wysiwyg. I've learnt CSS, PHP, Java script in addition to my Perl and Unix/Linux skills.
I designed an ecommerce site where the content provider did not know exactly what they wanted. It is stable, and well structured. There are many ways to crack a walnut, but the way I chose has been robust and easy to maintain.
Is it something I didn't include on my resume? How do we represent 30 years of craft and caring in 3 pages?
I've written a poem on the subject.
Each Day
Each day I awaken with renewed vigor,
today is the day my fortunes will change
the phone will ring
the inbox for my emails shall contain the message,
“We are interested in your background and experience”
they, ‘the faceless one’s’ do not know of me
the nights I worked ‘til 4.00 am solving problems
so ‘they’ could work freely at their desk
how do you explain your craft
in as few words as possible?
3 pages for 30 years, a nice and neat divide
10 years per page, does it describe
my earnest endeavors?
a few sentences for each year,
designing developing
is this all I deserve?
One hundred thousand lines of code
Circuitry by the dozen
designed from scratch,
no one else could do it
the crossing between the worlds
to and fro, real and unreal
Each day I’d plan my work
And work my plan he used to say
long ago,
before the cookie cutter monster came
and wanted no more and no less
than safety dictated
No one wants an edge walker
thinking creative, outside
the comfort zone, do you?
Each day the early morning bird song lifts my spirit
As I wait for the messages to finish loading
Blue Jays, Red cardinals vie for crumbs and leftovers
dancing a feathery waltz written long since past,
am I on such a path
vying for leftovers, the crumbs of technology
Each day grasping, each day
and each night, I lay down to sleep, hoping!

Comment from malcolm at 13:56 on 10_07_05 Dog's Balls and Baloney-- I never cease to be amazed. Remember the old chestnut? "Why does a dog lick its ball?" "Because it can!" Well someone just won one of the Ignoble awards for inventing plastic nuts. Actually he calls it a canine prosthesis. False gonads for castrated pooches. Ouch! He sells them for less than $100 a pair. It's amazing how creativity comes when you least expect it.
Dog’s Balls
My dog, he had nothing left to lick
For the vet had done one very large nick,
Incision was made
With a very sharp blade
Leaving Rover poor Rover quite sick
I felt bad, for his manhood was taken
So sad, there was no chance for faking
The pouch looked forlorn
You see his gonads were gone
And my mutt he was visibly shaking
But wait, while walking one day at the mall
I saw one plastic dog shaped grey ball
A replacement for canine
His nuts no more supine
I’ll buy some he will be enthralled
Rushed home and went surfing the net
I’d soon have replacements for pet
The site it was Neuticles
I’ve ruptured my cuticles
These balls are a must I should get
They came in the mail that next week
Oh boy did they look and feel sleek
He got back to licking
His tongue kept on ticking
The future is bright now, not bleak!
Speaking of which, Bush's choice for Supreme Court Judge is an insult to the judicial and legislative branches in this country. When are out politicians going to get some balls? Now those would sell like hot cakes!
Comment from Malcolm at 07:19 on 09_29_05 The news about Tom Delay has rocked the Republican party. This indictment supposedly smacks of partisanship. What were the Republicans saying when they were going after Clinton?
The measure of a person's spiritual evolution is there ability to epathize with the "other". I use the technique of role reversal. How would I feel if the situation was reversed? What would Tom Delay be saying if this had been a Democrat.
People talk about "Military Intelligence" as being the ultimae oxymoron. I would suggest that the House Ethics committee takes the biscuit on that. It would appear that the rule is do what you want but don't get caught.
One of the key government departments is the GAO (General Accounting Office) a watchdog group on government spending. They perform a herculean task as they attempt to reign in the profligate and wasteful spending in Washington. What does the Whitehouse do? They're attempting to cut back their power and reach! What an insult!
Do not speak of ethics and morality when you wouldn't know them if they smacked you on the side of the head. It is all about power and control closely followed by money. The gerrymandering that went on in Texas was an egregious way to grab yet more power. Corruption is so closely intertwined with politics in Washington that the honest politician is the exception rather than the rule. And those who try to behave with Integrity will probably be ostracised for their efforts.
The American people deserve to have elected officials with a modicum of honesty and Integrity, but to achieve that will necessitate a change in their behaviour. A good start is to begin to take perspectives out from the short term perspective and place it into a longer term realm. Does being a democrat or a republican really change our ability to see truth and reality that much? Why such distortion? Surely Truth and Action transcend politics? Comment from Malcolm at 15:12 on 09_26_05 I am getting tired of the virtual world. I miss the tactile stimulation of a more concrete domain. I have been stacking wood today for next year's supply and it felt so good. Beats pounding away on the keyboard.
I am actively looking for work and am so dissappointed with the results so far. I must say though it is a powerful lesson in humility.
As we watch the federal deficit start to balloon we hear Senators and 'Congressmen' make suggestions to reduce it. One politician suggests stopping support of Public Television and Radio. This person is a complete buffoon. On the one hand, our elected offcials want an educated publc, then with the other they take away support for a wonderful american institution which quite effectively fulfills their vision.
I know, I would be naive to believe they (politicians) care about the populous. They're all craft on camera and all graft off.
When will a politician come along who has charisma, intelligence and integrity? Maybe you can only have two out of three at best?
Carter was Intelligent and had Integrity.
Clinton was Intelligent and had
Charisma.
Bush (I & II) had none of the above!
It just shows you the power of the state apparatus. By the way for both Republicans and Democrats a question?
DO you believe that the voting systems in this country should be transparent and verifiable? Comment from Malcolm at 11:14 on 09_20_05 I'm still looking for work! It is remarkable, I am extremely intelligent, hard working and creative. I have worked in the technology field for over 30 years wth many successful projects under my belt. Yet it appears that I'm past it.
I have a lot of excellent qualities it is a shame that in this fast paced world that people cannot "see" beyond a sheet of paper. Recent unemployment figures state that the rate is in the 5% - 6% range. I think not, I believe it is much higher than that. I recently saw a job profile which asked for many skills and a fairly high degree of experience. "Oh, I can do that I thought, yes that'll be a good fit for my abilities". Then I got down to the punch line! They were paying at a rate of $15.00 per hour.
This is what happens in a capitalist system when supply exceeds demand, it becomes a buyer's market. I'm sure that my experience is a microcosm of what is happening at a national level. We have taken all of our high tech jobs and shipped them offshore. Every week that I and others do not work means less to add to the consumer pot.
If we are replacing all of our higher paying professional opportunities with lower paid service industry positions then we are doing a dis-service to all the investment people have made in there education training.
Who out there wants to hire intelligence? Not many people or so it seems. Comment from Malcolm at 11:45 on 09_17_05 Saturday morning: I watched some of the President's speech last Thursday evening. He has good speech writers is all I can say. At the top of this web page I state "the menu is not the meal". Indeed, his speech is not the action, who are the people with Integrity who will monitor the rebuilding efforts and hold the government and its contractors accountable?
$9 billion is missing in Iraq and cannot be accounted for. This country has a wonderful history of judging others while refusing to look at its own shadow. When individuals operate from a place when (ethical) values transcend the body politic, only then will we begin to see change in our society.
We elect individuals to high office and then blind ourselves to their behavior because we are afraid to be ostracized by the "group".
When we learn that we can be "alone" and live with Integrity, we actually find that we are never alone, for we are all connected at the spirit level.
Comment from Malcolm at 11:30 on 09_12_05 I have been thinking a lot about 9/11 for obvious reasons. (It was the 4th anniversary yesterday) Not so much about what happened, but the dichotomy between the "official" explanation and the reality of what actually did happen. The fact that the population at large is gullible enough to believe the government's line is the real tragedy.
Ironically, the truth is out there for people to see, but only if they will open up their hearts and minds. I came across this quote from Paul Tillich which sums up my own position:
"For the Kingdom of God does not come in one dramatic event sometime in the future. It is coming here and now in every act of love, in every manifestation of truth, in every moment of joy, in every experience of the holy."
"in every manifestation of truth"... do we not deserve to know the truth" Do we think so little of ourselves that we would gladly go along with the party line, regardless of where it leads?
The real tragedy isn't that the Towers came down, it is that those responsible can act with impunity, with no fear of being held accountable. This is the real tragedy, the black hole of democracy in the USA, where the truth vanishes, never to be seen under the cold light of real analysis and intellectual discourse. Comment from Malcolm at 14:47 on 09_11_05 I forget who said this, possibly Black Elk, but nevertheless it is most appropriate today.
"You cannot waken a man who pretends to be asleep".
It is time that the people of this country woke up and realized that their whole way of life is slowly being taken away from them. No matter the books and the information that exists to inform and enlighten them, if they refuse to be open to the reality of the situation, then they must suffer the consequences.
I poll this morning stated that 41% of americans think Bush is handling the Katrina crisis well! How can well over 100 million people think this? What facts are they basing their judgement on? It cannot be from recent events, for those have shown that most politicians and federal program heads are uselss in a crisis.
Comment from Malcolm at 14:01 on 09_11_05 Another month crept up and I was late setting up the new monthly blog page. Today is the 4th anniversary of 9/11. There will be much fanfare and beating of breasts at the loss of life. (As there should be) But I am wary of who is saying what! On that fateful day more than just the towers came down. What also came down was the last semblance of democracy in this country.
As George Carlin stated on Bill Mahr recently we live in a fascist state, one controlled by business. It was refreshing to listen to a man who truly understands. (what is going on)
I used to think that as time past we would all become more enlightened. "Fat chance!" It is as if most individuals refuse to open their eyes and look at reality, preferring to sound patriotic and bang the drum of nationalism even harder. The shadow side of Anerica commands center stage at the moment, I wonder when the teachings of Jesus will begin to come to the fore? What was it? "Love one another"! "The meek shall inherit the earth".
Alas not in the near future, big business is in control and will not give up without a fight.

It was amazing, I woke up with a start, dripping in sweat, no more like drowning, for it was mid July and the air conditioning wasn't working properly. The bedroom window was wide open, but, jesus, it still felt like the
Amazon
Rain forest
in the height of summer. It was like a scene out of a Chaplin movie or a
Laurel
and Hardy picture as I staggered across the room. You see, I didn't know where I was for a moment, half awake, half asleep, vaguely trying to figure things out, a totally blank look on my face, and then I woke up realizing it was the actual phone ringing. I fell over in the process, nearly twisting my ankle and knocking the phone over.
You see it was the dream I had, God it was so real! I've got to read up on dreams, what do they mean? Are they just random neurons firing, or some kind of mental filing system, sorting out and ordering our experiences and memories. ?
Who would believe that I'd been trying to settle an argument between Pat Benetar and Leonardo de Vinci? He'd caught her wearing a tampon in church, who knows how? Maybe he'd seen that little dangly string hanging down, slightly outside her shorts. He was yelling at her "Not in church, not in church", and she was shouting back at him "Hit me with your best shot," Hit me with your best shot!" They were in my office going back and forth at each other, arguing, like a bad marriage.
Leonardo had been talking to me over a cup of coffee, about his new idea for flight, a helicopter, he was really excited, and Pat had come in to talk to me about some problems with her latest album. Something about stereo imaging on the third track, but she didn't get to explain it properly. It was ridiculous, stereo imaging, tampons and helicopters all flying around my office. Middle aged science genius, country rock singer and me, stuck in the middle, trying to calm everything down. And then I began to write, to compose, as I always do when I get stressful, it always seems to calm me down.
"When you try on a tampon always keep it well hidden,
Cos you never know whose watching, it could happen quite sudden,
So push it in quite firmly, make sure it's quite tight,
It'll keep old De Vinci from having a fright.
and when you remove it, I hope you do so with care,
Don't get the string tangled or stuck in your hair."
And then the phone rang damn it, but I couldn't reach it across my desk because those two were still yelling at each other, "Not in Church", "Hit me with your best shot," and that's when I woke up, cos' it was actually the real phone ringing. Dreams are weird aren't they?

Peace.
I sat and read the paper,
the news so dripped in blood,
and thoughts ran through me, ever fast,
to change my upbeat mood,
a word in black, a life struck down,
I read from safety's chair
'tis as before, does nothing change,
I think it isn't fair.
Why oh why is there so much strife,
with lives just left to rot
We value less a beating heart, the
spirit is viewed as nought.
For money, more money is the only creed,
with power along beside
Equation set, the capitalist ' dream
shall never be denied.
Wars spring forth from uneasy minds,
as a dog backed gainst a wall,
It's all about the fear,
that burns deep within us all.
But face the fear, and fight the fear,
it's worth it in the end
A change of heart, a different view
makes an enemy become a friend.
You see, arms from love bring life and hope,
but those from hate bring death.
Stand fast with me, hold hands with me
and work with all our breath
For peace is what we really need,
embraced inside and out,
So tell the world, don't whisper soft,
but give almighty shout.
Let the shout ring out from deep within,
as bold and strong as steel
It's peace we want, not strife and loss, for that's just the way I feel.

The Event
takes place, and in an instant
my senses tell me all
and I know what happened
(for we all know what happened, connected as we are)
but seven veils combined within and without
cloister the reality of the moment
filters long present, of money and more
steer the beams of truth away from my knowing
even as the beams of steel come crashing down.
fears of aloneness push away
the dancing wavelets of honest emotion
“we know what you’re thinking”
“you’ve been on the drinking”
imaginary choirs sing the sounds of judgement
flag wrapped lines drawn between
the shadow and the light
sheer us all in two
as the misty fabrics stand strong
woven with threads of fear and convention
the dust of a thousand blocks crashed add to our blindness
maginot minded we are
kept in the dark of our own choosing
voices cannot bridge the gap between
the comfort and the cold
yet the gut embraces all offering up the whole
sack cloths of denial hide the very thing we desire
and we all know this to be true
ill lit dank rejections jig the veils
dancing their deadly dance
will we ever wake up and see, eyes wide seeing what is rightfully ours to see?
For do we not owe it to the dead and the grieving
The towers may be gone but did we also lose our senses?

On Reading Poetry !
I am standing in the eye of the hurricane
Peaceful.
In a brief patch of sun, illuminating a rain soaked grey day
A refuge.
A moment of pause, in a busy life of work and traffic jams
Tranquil.
These words bathe me in a gentle warm
of connection with self and others
contrasting with a dislocated, fragmented existence
spent in that corporate world.
Hear my words, and know they sit on page proud.
Happy in the knowing, that they live, through the oral tradition.
Let this literary force be not judged by hallowed halls of English professorships,
but by the listener, and the shared experience.
My knees are shaking, slightly, rocked by who knows what from yesteryear.
“Come back Dale Carnegie, all is forgiven!”
Still I read, and hope this muse, this muse
does give to you a respite, a respite from
the storms of daily life.

Cracked
China
It comes up randomly, this cracked plate,
but each time I use it
a smile is mirrored in my face.
For do we all not have flaws within
our own inner set of china?
It has been suggested that we throw it out!
But it has become an integral part of my kitchen.
This plate, piled with the others, is scarred,
but still worthy
of many a steak or salad.
Some say it could be a health hazard
with deadly microbes furtively burrowing
deep in the fault lines.
I say it exercises my immune system!
We treat this plate with extra care
or so I believe,
held back from the garbage,
for another day at least.
It does go well with the chipped cup.
The set is made no more, superceded,
but we will keep our eyes open,
you never know when other pieces may be found?
We do not use the plate for guests
although sometimes I think we should.
